At William's old senior school there were quite a few T1s and the staff were reasonably clued up, although one once suggested to W that he might need his insulin when he was low. Thankfully he was compos mentis enough to explain! Our DSN used to go in occasionally to do a refresher course, so on the whole I think it was OK. It would need to be better than that at primary school though. At his current school (weekly boarder) he is the only T1 but before he joined them, two members of staff went on a special course about supporting T1s in school, and passed on the info to the others when they got back. There is a big poster on the boarding house wall explaining about hypos and what to do. The school nurse's sister is a T1. Feel we are very lucky to have such knowledgeable people supporting William. I have gone slightly off topic here ...
