Diabetes experts will hold a conference at Liverpool Hope University next week to teach the public more about the disease.

The talks will cover areas such as the link between diabetes and dementia, its effects on the skeleton and how the illness can be managed through nutrition.

There are more than 75,000 Merseysiders living with diabetes, according to the charity Diabetes UK – and the disease now accounts for £1 of every £10 of NHS expenditure.

Liverpool Hope senior biology lecturer Dr Carl Larsen said: “Diabetes is becoming more common in the UK population so it is important that people are informed.
