Nearly 18 months since diagnosis and I have a much better understanding of D. This Xmas I allowed myself a bit of slack re the carbs (but nothing too drastic). I tested etc and even with the Xmas fare my levels were between 5.5 and 6.5. While it would be nice to continue with the additional carbs. I think it is possibly better to resume normal diet.

Sounds like a similar situation to me. I also went free-fall on the carbs and food volume over Christmas, and surprisingly my BS reading went up a bit, but not so much as I was expecting. What I did find though, was that I didn't enjoy the indulgent stuff as much as I used to, particularly the sweet things - and the indigestion wasn't much fun either.
I actually feel much better more or less back on my usual eating plan - So maybe it's not so bad being a type2 after all!

That sounds a good outcome Sharron.
I feel it is worth a few days slack now and then but good to get back to ‘normal’ afterwards.

This kind of makes sense if you agree with Prof Taylor and subscribe to the notion that we have a sort of personal fat threshold in our Liver & Pancreas. So you can eat carbs as long as your organs aren't "full" of fat. The question is, how long could you eat the carbs for before becoming "full" again and then back into the heavy diabetes?

But it's definitely a weird condition. What's perhaps even more strange is that so many people have it, but hardly anyone in the general population seems to understand it.
 
After three years of low carb I now can eat extra carbs without seeing elevated glucose, but I would see extra weight in a day or so, and it is so hard to shift once it arrives. Not really worth it.
