Having moved from pre-diabetes to following my last 3 monthly blood test, now Type 2. I have received information regarding attending a locally run 6 week X-Pert Diabetes course, has anybody attended this course and can you tell me if it was helpful or not.

I attended last year and found it really, really useful. The dieticians and nurses are all fully up to date with the latest approaches to managing T2 diabetes. They also don’t push a one size fits all approach, rather they will give you the benefits of low carb, Mediterranean, low fat diets.

Well worth attending and the course booklet is a handy reference document.

I hope you find the course informative as it sounds as if you didn't get ay support in making some lifestyle changes when you had the prediabetes diagnosis. That is a shame as it could have prevented your progression to a Type 2 diagnosis. Hopefully it has now been picked up before you are too far into the zone.
Have a look at this link as it has good explanation and give you some ideas for modifying your diet https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ This program was developed by a GP practice who found the standard NHS advice based on the Eat Well Plate did not work for their Type 2 patients as it is too high in carbohydrates.
You may then find it raises questions for when you do the course.

Many thanks for that I will most certainly be attending

Thank you for the link it looks to be very useful. You are quite right my initial pre diabetes info comprised 4 sheets of A4 info followed by my own research with Doctor Google and this website. Hopefully this course will have a positive remission outcome.

sorry to hear about the progression. I found this Forum when I was pre-diabetic and I managed to get back to the higher side of normal although it took three years. It stayed normal for a few years but has now crept up to 42 again so need to start again.

I am glad to hear the Diabetes Info Programme has improved. When I went on one years back it was eat bread, potatoes, pasta, rice at every meal so I ignored and took the advice from here and Michael Moseley. Sounds like the information is much better now thank goodness.

Good luck with your dietary changes which I hope will do the trick for you. I changed to a lower carb diet and found that I am now rarely hungry, whereas with a high glycaemic diet full of carbs I was always hungry.

Just finished x-pert course and found it helpful. It really does cover everything and although I felt familiar with a lot of the content I still learned something every week. It was also useful to hear and share experiences with others.
