Hi all,
Last year on the programme big brother there was a character called Tina Malone, she was the Liverpudlian one. Anyway i spotted in a magazine a story saying she has been type 1 on insulin since she was 19. I vaguely remember seeing bits of this programme as my daughter watched it - but i dont ever recall seeing her inject herself! But, last year i probably wasnt as alert to diabetes - but i think i would have seen someone injecting. Its a shame if she didnt as i think it was a missed opportunity for her to be able to bring diabetes to the public eye and 'normalise' it. Can anyone recall seeing her injecting? 🙂 Bev

nope there's no way she did it on camera because i would have noticed. That's so infuriating!!

It's funny because ive often though "would they actually choose anyone with type 1 diabetes??" because they've never had anyone injecting on it. And ive thought maybe Id have less chance of getting on it, if I wanted to (no i wouldnt want to be on it lol)

I might have to write her a letter 😉

Not sure I'd want to be on big brother (don't watch it too often either), but it would be nice to see programmes about people living with diabetes. We here are a diverse bunch who do all kinds of jobs, or go to school or be mums and dads. I'd be quite happy for cameras to follow me round for a while.

I watched it and it wasnt mentioned, she never tested or injected,, what a missed opportunity to educate people..

Perhaps she preferred privacy?!? Perhaps she had an agreement with the BB production team?

Copepod - yes of course that is a possibility and i hope thats the only reason. If showing her injecting was blacked out because the BB bosses thought it inappropriate - that would be annoying!
Although there is a full page spread in the magazine called 'love it' - where she is explaining having a gastric band or somethng similar. She makes reference to being diabetic and using insulin etc.🙂 Bev

Good point. I wonder if it was her choice or the producers. I might feel uncomfortable injecting in front of the cameras so could understand if she didn't want to.
