Did you walk to A and E? That may have brought levels down.
I say that cos when i was diagnosed and sent to a&e it was friday night and so no taxi to be had so walked there. Still not sure if that was wise!
No, unfortunately it was an hour away from my home!

So hba1c 43 last year, and annoyingly moved up to 75 just before Christmas this year (i didn’t give it the serious attention it required for the last few years after gestational diabetes) ……… little NHS support available now until my first review due mid February! Feeling completely left in limbo ………. Is there any hope of remission with the right motivation and determination on those levels?
Hello - it's a really difficult challenge to bring down you HBA1C. if you want moral support, please message me

So test kit arrived today - 6.3 an hour after eating a small ish meal…….. im now on 3x500mg metformin but have also made instant drastic diet changes since Christmas Day……. Should I assume it’s just the medication having a positive effect or could instant dietary changes have this effect too?

The usual way to test is to check just before starting to eat, then two hours later, as that gives an overall picture of suitability of meal and progress made - but being under 7mmol/l seems a good place to be anyway.
Metformin doesn't lower blood glucose as such so I'd be tempted to credit the dietary changes.
I feel you are lucky to be tolerating Metformin - I had dreadful trouble with it and simply gave up on the idea of taking tablets after a month or so - life was not worth living.

@Leanne123 glad you are being positive. I don't know what changes you have made but you used the word "drastic " many people suggest you should take it carefully/ slowly as it can affect your eyesight ( temporarily) Do keep checking your readings on your monitor.
Good luck

Thanks. Just cutting out any junk i would have ordinarily had over Christmas - chocolates, cakes, sweets - and more sweets!

8.9 2hrs after my evening meal. Slightly higher than id like. Are readings higher later in the day/ after evening meal usually? Any info be greatly appreciated

It is early days though - what did you eat for the meal? That might be where to start to evaluate what you can and can't eat, and in what quantity.

Often people find the morning is where carbs have more impact but the aim is to be no more that 8-8.5 2 hours post meal so perhaps your meal was a bit carb heavy but it is early days and best to reduce your carb intake gradually.

Don't forget to check carbs! If you have a sweet tooth there is a website people recommend called https://sugarfreelondoner.com/
I haven't used it as I'm not into baking though I'm considering some of the items on the Freshwell site using almond flour and the microwave. I have also bought very occasionally a dark chocolate and nut bar by Kind they come as a pack of 3 and are 30 grams each and 7.2 gms. As I am not great at rationing I haven't bought any this month as three is too tempting

I actually cut those type of protein nut bars into 3 pieces and just have 1 with my afternoon cuppa.

Thanks everyone
