Kochi: Though the Union Ministry of Health has revoked the ban on anti-diabetes drug pioglitazone, patients are apprehensive of its regular use. According to doctors, patients are reluctant to take the tablet and prefer expensive substitute drugs or insulin shots.
A sudden and immature decision of the ministry has resulted in unnecessary panic among diabetes patients, they allege. Doctors confirm that this commonly prescribed drug will have serious side effects only through long term use and in high doses.
