The death rate from diabetes among children and adolescents has fallen by more than 60% since the late 1960s, according to the CDC.
In 1968-1969, the death rate from diabetes among those 19 and younger was 2.69 per million, according to a report in the Nov. 2 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
By 2008-2009, the rate had fallen to 1.05 per million, a decline of 61%, the investigators reported.
