The clue is in the title and for me it is today. It started at 6.25am this morning when 'dawn syndrone' poked my blood sugars up to 16mmols extremely unexpectedly. No food last night and blood sugars at 4.0mmols just before bobo's. I usually wake around 5.00am and if my blood sugars have started creeping westwards I will take some insulin to bring them back northwards. Today however I slept in and have been playing catch up pretty much all day. I took a chunk of insulin and omitted breakfast completely. By 8.30am and some more insulin my blood sugars were slowly falling. The morning then was a case of picking at food and taking fast acting insulin until at 1.00pm things had normalised enough to eat some lunch. More picking at food and some more injecting this afternoon. Things are now pretty normal and after this evenings piano lesson I should be able to return a regular(ish) routine and have a normal dinner. I periodically have these days and I still hate the bloody things. They take a lot of extra monitoring and a lot of extra management. Some well meaning individual at work dropped the casual bombshell - you need to start looking after yourself. I could very easily have taken the smouldering cigarette out of his hand and burned his eyeball with it 😡
