just wondering what people's experiences are of using propranolol i am going on to this shortly and wondering if it has any impact with diabetes.

also in general how you found the medication.

i will go in to details as to why later on.

Have you checked out the Patient Leaflet for it?

Does say you should not take it if you suffer from diabetes mellitus because it can disguise low blood glucose levels.

Not suggesting you worry about it, but it might be worth checking with your GP just to make sure he has considered this in suggesting you take it. All medication has upsides and downsides, it's just a question of making sure that the upsides outweigh the downsides.

I take 40mg of propanalol 3x a day as I have Long QT Syndrome and anxiety. I haven’t had any problems with it. It stops your heart racing but I still get other symptoms of hypos usually.

i suffer from racer heart done for a long time but other problems are setting in which is why it is been prescribed. when i get the heart racing my hands get real shaky and it is hoped that the medication should settle it down.

i think the benefits doc will out weigh the small risk of disguising hypo, if i was injecting then the risks might be too much.

can only try it out.

The symptoms I find easiest to still notice are a cold sweat, shaking and dizziness. The propanalol will probably reduce the heart racing and I haven’t had any negative side effects from it. I only get negative effects when I forget to take it and notice my heart more. The great thing about propanalol is it works immediately so you won’t have any issues stopping if it isn’t for you.

I take 160mg propranolol a day and have done for about 9 years. I take it for a tremor but it doesn't actually work effectively anymore but have never had any problems with it.

that shakiness i was describing is hand tremors, my dad had the same thing but wouldn't go to the doctors which i wish he had done because you never know if it was something hereditary.

medication is on its way this afternoon and will start the first dose when i get it.

that tremor for me can be so bad that i have trouble trying to press numbers on the telephone key pad.

i am under a neurologist for something else so will try and get this addressed better trouble is getting f2f

I've never seen a neurologist but when I told the docs that the propranolol wasn't working any more she decided to refer me as they may need to change medication or see if it is actually something else causing the tremor. It goes up my arm and sometimes my head shakes as well, most peculiar feeling. Very difficult painting my nails and my husband likes a good laugh when the forkful of food can't get to my mouth!! Hope it helps you, it certainly did me for a number of years.

My mum has the shaky head thing from time to time and its apparently where she broke her shoulder a few years ago and the muscles in her neck/shoulder were over compensating..... we sent her to a neurologist as the dr didn't appear concerned but it worried her, he put her on propranolol 3 a day and it hasn't made much of a difference. She has noticed its worse when she is stressed. They have recommended she takes a diazepan in the evening as well which she doesn't very often do

@mikeydt1 I was prescribed it before I was diagnosed with diabetes mainly for anxiety. I thought it was great it reduced my blood pressure brilliantly and I never had migraines whilst on it unfortunately they took me off and put on blood pressure meds (which don't work as well) and not had it since. Hopefully you will be fine and see an improvement

started the new medication off and what a difference to the ticker not only that but as i suffer with migraines then it should have the added benefit of reducing as i have been plagued with them and the risks of taking triptans would be reduced as they can cause major problems.

my step mother had a car accident years ago then later i noticed the head shakes. these persisted throughout her life.

My friend put a couple of stone on with them. She had to ease herself off them, it was for anxiety after her mother passed. I was on them for decades presumably for my 'panic attacks' or maybe dicky ticker but the leaflet says they give you heart failure eventually so I don't get that really. A family member has been given them and I'm thinking well if they work then they should take them, but I wish I hadn't taken them. I don't think I needed them all those decades along with the valium. Everybody is different, trial and error maybe?

the problem i have ditto is that there is a history of heart problems on my dads side this took him clean out and that is something i wish to avoid.

i am clearly noticing a better change since starting and i can now do chores without my heart jumping through my mouth and the shakiness is def better and it is making me feel better in myself.

if the tablets hadn't been prescribed i would be heading for hospital soon.

i am diagnosed with a leaky heart valve and hardening of the arteries all through smoking which i have now stopped.

one thing the doctors prescribed sleeping tablets i am not a fond lover of these. took one last night, went to bed and be blown woke an hour later and could i heck get back to sleep till very late last night. what a bag of rubbish.

I can abolish the tremors that I get intermittently with my neurological condition with CBD oil, 10%, three or four drops under the tongue. It is expensive, mind. Don’t know whether it works in these familial tremors, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t. It works in some, not all Parkinson’s disease cases. I know one guy with Parkinson’s who grows his own cannabis in his shed, and swears by it.

I believe you're allowed three plants for own use. 🙂

this might sound strange but does anyone know if this propranolol can affect the vision just seems a bit blurry or my diabetes is mucking a bit.

Mikey I’d check the leaflet as mine lists disturbance of vision as a rare side effect and suggests speaking to your GP, or Pharmacist may be able to advise since it’s the weekend?

had to telephone the doctors about this medication as it has been causing some undesired side effects will chase on Monday. checked on the NHS website yesterday and the side effects were listed wish i had known earlier. trying to find an alternative.

Are you still having problems with the vision? The side effects should be listed on the leaflet, inside the box with info on what to do e.g. which to contact dr about. Always a good idea to read it when starting a new medication then you know what to look out for. Hope you sort it soon.
