Hi. Was diagnosed T2 several years ago, did well on diet/exercise for quite a time then levels started creeping up so on metformin and later meds’ for blood pressure / cholesterol. Continued to manage it well - helped a lot by regular walking. However, started to feel very low several months ago stopped the walking and healthy-ish diet. Eventually sought help. Now on Sertraline and can’t stop eating! I’ve put on 10 kg in 3 months and really struggling. Has anyone else been on this “journey” .....
 
Simple question - what's your BG looking like Joy?

Thing is it can be a vicious circle really - cos when the BG is too high or too low - it DOES affect how we feel mentally - it did me, anyway. The state of our mental health can also affect our BG equally easily. When I was so stressed I was having full blown panic attacks - Sertraline did me no good at all - I think I tried a couple of things before anything seemed to improve it, but we got there - me and my very patient empathetic old GP.

Do you have your own meter and strips to test and see what's what with your BG regularly? Because of what I've already said - it could well be that you need some extra drug help to treat your diabetes - has your GP been checking how that's going regularly too? If you need more help with your D - which some tests over a period would show - take those results to your GP and ASK him for more help.

However - because it seemed I couldn't do anything right at the time - I just got bloody minded and dug my stubborn heels in and virtually made dealing with my diabetes my new fulltime job. Spent a LOT of time educating myself about diabetes even though I'd already had it 30 years and assumed I knew everything - I must certainly did NOT - because nobody had ever thought to bother educating me properly hence I didn't know LOTS of things then. A diabetes forum on the internet (a UK one that's still up and running, before this one here really got going like it is now - now it's great!) 6 months later I was much improved on all counts and started to be able to relax a bit - and I've been lucky enough not to have to go there again so far.

None of what's happening at the moment is likely to be your own fault - stuff like this just creeps up on us no matter how well we think we are coping.

Go for it - you know you want to else you wouldn't have joined the forum! You CAN sort your diabetes and I promise you your state of mind will improve too!
 
Hi. Thanks for your response - appreciate the time you took to reply. To be honest I’m avoiding testing myself when I know I’ve had a ‘bad’ day (or two or three!). Not the right / sensible way I know but ..... I’m an intelligent strong minded woman so do know what I should be doing to manage my condition but sometimes life just gets messy for a while. Hope to get back on track soon.
