Hi David & welcome to the forum. Cancer tends to be linked with everything, even breathing! I can't see why diabetics would be more likely to get cancer than anyone else. If you can keep blood sugars within normal ranges by changing diet & increasing exercise, you'll probably end up being healthier that you've ever been.

Your chances of getting cancer are still no different to what they were before you were diagnosed as having diabetes.

Much of the research seems to have concentrated on the effects of unwise lifestyle choices in type 2’s which could increase tendency towards cancer anyway. The things Mark mentioned like a seriously sedentary lifestyle, high sugar/carb intake, no exercise...and whilst not diabetes connected, higher use of alcohol and tobacco.

It’s one of those worries that gets you nowhere I’m afraid. Main thing is to keep levels under control, the stress down and try to mimimise systemic inflammation (which I’m convinced is implicated in cancer).

I’ve got two conditions that make me more prone to develop cancer, but they are so closely monitored I can’t be bothered worrying. Diabetes isn’t one of them. On the whole, well controlled T2s are healthier than most muggles because of the healthy diet.

I'm other way around, had cancer 2015, then T2 diagnosis 2016. There is a link with developing T2 after cancer if you have had steroids as part of chemo/cancer treatment. I also believe stress is a big fact that can lead your immune system to weaken and leave you vulnerable to various conditions.
