Hi everyone . I read on facebook about a dexicom system and for me it would be a life savour , as I could finally keep a proper control of my levels and possibly be able to gain weight ,, it says they cost about £900 of witch there is no way I could possibly afford .. Does anyone know how I could get one on the NHS ?

Hi Darren...never heard of it before....you need proper professional help from your doctor or your diabetic nurse, if they are not helping you for god sake change your surgery or ask to see a different doctor or be refereed to a dietitian expert that can help you....please stop looking around the net and get proper help!!!...sorry to be so harsh but you need proper help not internet help!!

Please see someone that will help you!

Hi Darren, unfortunately things like the Dexcom, which is a CGMS (Continuous Glucose Monitoring System) are very rarely given to people on the NHS :( It's not just the cost of the transmitter/receiver, but also the ongoing costs of the sensors which I believe cost about £60 each and last about a week. You might be able to get one on loan for a short period, I would ask your DSN/Doctor.

Hi Darren,

The Dexcom is a continuous glucose monitoring system, which is indeed very useful (we have used another brand ourselves). However it has not been recommended under any NICE guidelines, and even patients with type 1 are rarely able to get it funded on the NHS. If you are type 2 I'm afraid I don't rate your chances.

How are you getting on with your regular BG testing? Do you get a lot of variation across the day? And have you sought advice yet from the doctors about your weight issues? Have you had your thyroid checked yet? Sorry for all the questions, but I agree with Jalapino that you need to get a proper referral instead of trawling the internet for possible magic cures! 🙂. And I mean that in the nicest possible way! {{{hugs}}} x
