DexcomG7 and Apple Watch for swimming

Hi,
I am still working on a way to feel confident about going back to swimming after my type 1 diagnosis in March this year.

I recently moved to Dexcom G7 from Libre ( very happy with the better accuracy) and as G7can communicate directly with an Apple Watch without your iPhone needing to be nearby and as apparently you can swim with later Apple Watches I am wondering if this could be my high tech solution.

Does anyone use this combination of tech to get readings from G7 on an iwatch while swimming?

If you do I’d love to know all about it ..or any alternative solutions

Here’s hoping

I use libre and an Apple Watch Series 7 and swim without seeing my bgs. Have you tried swimming, or any other exercise to give you a feel for how your bgs react to exercise?

You could do some land based exercise to give you a feel for how your bgs react, then try swimming but get out to check your bg, save you the expense of an Apple Watch. Could also put orange juice in a water bottle and sit it at the end of the lane and sip partway through.

Hi @CathyFP, I wonder if it would work? Dexcom's FAQs seem to suggest Bluetooth won't send the readings to your display device (Apple watch in this case) whilst submerged. You'd receive up to 6-hours once the Bluetooth connection is reconnected. https://www.dexcom.com/faqs/can-i-swim-and-bathe-dexcom-g7
I think you’d stand up at the end of the lane to get the dexcom sensor out of the water and wait for it to reconnect to watch, intermittently during swimming.

Assuming a sensor is accurate during exercise is a bad starting point though, bgs can change more quickly than sensors can keep up with during exercise so you should always get out and fingerprick if feeling low. I’d recommend having carbs first then get out to check if feeling low as testing fresh from the pool is slightly slower since need to unlock a locker, dry a hand, then test.
