I'm still using the G4 at the moment new pump start is the 2nd of August 🙂 I'm waiting to hear if funding will be granted for the sensors by the charity that kindly funds them for me.
I spoke to Dexcom today asking about paracetamol and low and behold you can use paracetamol with the G6. Which is a added bonus.
Well put it on your arm then 🙂 Just remember that if you have a faulty sensor and it needs replacing you need to tell Dexcom it was on your tum.I am putting my first one on tonight, close my eyes and go for it loll, i would prefer it on my arm
Im trialing the Dexcom G6 as the Freestyle Libre sensors are like playing on the stock exchange there are so many people profiteering on them as Freestyle can not supply, has anyone had any experience, i will let you know mine
They are still not taking new customers , I have just been able to order having waited since September.I don’t know about any difficulties with supply of Libre sensors, I ordered 6 yesterday.
I know what you mean since i pputa sensor on cart not stop checking my sometimes you just dont want to know.I've got one! Have knocked it put a few times and tbh I'm not sure I like the permanent trace; I preferred not testing for 2 hours after eating. Now when.i see a rise it's hard to find the faith it'll come down again, and when I see a downhill slope I tend to panic and eat and send it too high.
Have never eaten so much in my life and I hate that! - hopefully learning, slowly, not to be too reactive.
Nice to wear though, much easier to put in than G4 which I also tried breifly.
Hello Simon, sounds like you are starting to get to grips with your CGM.
The correction dose of 6 units of Humalog that levelled you off at 7mmol, yes, that is what you are supposed to do. And the CGM showed you that it works. Of course avoiding the next spike to 20 is also a goal.
Timing of insulin injection, meal planning and daily exercise, even walking at a brisk pace for half an hour, can work wonders to cap those post meal peaks and reduce the bolus dose needed to cover meals.
After exercise, the next simplist way to reduce both spikes and bolus requirements is to reduce the amount of carbs in meals. I know, diet and exercise, but it really does make such a difference.
As you have a CGM you can continue your experiments and record and track your own progress. Your health professionals will probably be impressed if you can reduce your hba1c, but i think that will naturally follow your successful experiments.
Good luck
Hi Rebasora wow your really motivated im sure you are going to get the results you want, and well done on the weight loss, pricking your finger every 30 mins is a pain hence the G6 for me, keep going.Hi Simon. I will be following this post with interest as I am considering getting a G6. I assume you are self funding? Do you feel it worth the money?.... I know it is early days yet but I guess you will gain most from it in the first few weeks.... hoping so anyway as I cannot afford to fund it long term.
I have just started today, monitoring my BG via finger pricking much more frequently.... roughly every 30mins.... to track how my insulin and food and exercise is affecting my levels and even at this stage I can see a huge benefit. I also feel encouraged to go out and take specific exercise to see how it affects things..... just been out for a short run (and I hate running), but will be motivated to go out every day if I see a significant drop. Not sure why HCPs are so set against frequent testing. The more knowledge you have the better decisions you can make.
Personally, I prefer to eat very low carb now since my diagnosis and take the minimum amount of insulin I can get away with. I feel healthier for cutting out bread and pasta etc and I actually enjoy my food more and don't get the really bad cravings that I was getting. Losing a couple of stone in weight was a huge bonus.
Great to hear that you are finding so much benefit. I so understand the confidence thing, especially when you have had a few hypos because it really knocks you. I have horses and the worry of going low whilst I am out on a horse on my own.... or even with someone else who might struggle to deal with 2 excited horses and a poorly me.... is a big issue.
It is really great that it is also enabling you to hit your target range and maintain it there.
Do you mind me asking where you got it from and did you buy the starter pack or sign up for an annual subscription and do you use your phone or the Dexcom receiver? Sorry to ask so many questions but I am really interested in how this works and don't know anyone else to ask.
