[ EDIT: Thank you all so much for the comments! Despite having the dexcom for a while now I haven’t had much of a chance to fiddle around with the app and the controls, so big thanks to all the advice 🙂 ]

I was in college in a lesson. This was some time last year when we were all first settling in to college.

My bloods were high beforehand so I did a correction, but it was taking a while to kick in.
Later I was in the lesson and my dexcom high alert went off and scared the living hell out of me! Everyone heard it, and the teacher asked if I can turn the notifications of . I explained it was to monitor blood sugars for diabetes and she was like “oh ok sorry!!”, but the alarm kept going off throughout the lesson, and she came up to me and asked “is there any way you can turn it down?” I couldn’t see a volume button anywhere. My only option was to just turn off the notifs until the lesson ended because I felt so embarrassed. But also I didn’t feel good about doing that because I need to know what my bloods are, and I can’t just turn it off!

Anyways, now I just keep my phone on and have it on my desk always on my dexcom app, so I can see my bloods without interrupting the lesson with loud beeps I just felt so embarrassed

My daughter’s is always going off in class, the other kids have got used to what it is now and keep asking her if she’s going to die lol

What annoys me about the Dexcom Follow app though, if you are talking on your phone and you get texts or emails or whatever coming in your phone just does a little quiet beep in your ear to let you know instead of the usual noise. Dexcom alerts however continue at full blast and deafen you!

You can go into your alerts and change high alert to a higher glucose which will stop the alerts from continuing until it gets to that level or change the frequency of them. I’ve used this at times I just have to remember to change it back later but usually a high can be dealt with at the next meal so it’s less of an issue than a low. But yes the loudness when you’re on the phone etc is

Can you not just have a vibrate alert?

Sounds like a lack of sympathy from the teacher for a chronic condition.
Maybe it could be a vibrate or a lower volume but a CGM alert is important and care should be taken not to make it too discrete as it would be missed.

I understand it was due to a correction taking time but it's possible there was a problem with that correction so the alert was needed.
If an International pop star can have their alert go off on prime time national television, then why should people get annoyed in a class? https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/haim-interview-interrupted-by-insulin-pump-alarm.92066/

I use the Dexcom receiver...old school.... but with the receiver you’re able to set a specific time for the alarms to re remind you of out of range levels. 15 mins upto 4 hrs.

You can do that in the app too. Essential, especially for high readings as far as I am concerned, when NovoNotVeryRapid can take a full hour to start correcting a high BG
