Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just saying hello. Diagnosed March 2013 after shoulder op and 3 weeks of doing nothing but eat Cadbury mini eggs (I was born a cream egg's throw from their Bourneville factory so have chocolate not blood in my veins). Am doing ok. Lost 12lbs, got the tingly feet and found sugar free bickies . However, helping hubby with advanced prostrate cancer so life not too easy right now, but getting by.

Hi Elaine lovely to meet you and sorry about your diagnosis but it sounds like you are doing well. It must be very difficult for you at the moment,. and so sorry about your husband . Hope you stay in touch and that this site can be of help to you, take care

H Elaine a warm welcome to the forum x

Hi Elaine, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and your hubby's :(

Are you on any medication for your diabetes? I would recommend looking at our Useful links thread, especially Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter. You might also like to get hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, which is a really positive and informative book that many of our members have found invaluable 🙂

Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have. We are a friendly bunch and there is a very broad range of experience, so whatever is troubling or confusing you, there will probably be someone who can help you out 🙂

Thanks for the welcome. Don't usually do forums ( bit shy) but have found PC site useful so thought I would give it a go. Started Metformin at Xmas but bit iffy with it so will check it out at clinic next week. Problem is some nurses don't seem to know about side effects of this medication and I have to rely on Google.

There is a 'slow-release' version of metformin which some people find gentler on the system, so if you are struggling do ask your GP for this 🙂

Hi Elaine. Welcome to the forum. If you don't get on with Metformin, there are plenty of alternatives so don't hesitate to whine at your medical team and ask for something else.

Hi Elaine

Hi Elaine
I'm new here too, recently diagnosed and everyone is lovely and really helpful. I'm sorry to hear about your husband it must be tremendously difficult. My Dad was on Metformin and it didn't agree with him, they were a bit dismissive at first but with a bit of pestering they gave him a different type (I assume the slow release version) and that suited him fine.

Thanks. Bit ignorant about medications so will mention it. I tend to give two a go, one morning and one early evening, but find I'm better with just one. My latest count is down to 49 so it does seem to help.
