Ozempic and Wegovy, which are both taken as weekly injections, mimic a human hormone called GLP-1, which is released in the gut in response to eating.

A one-and-done treatment that would last for years. The company wants to deliver an artificial gene to the pancreas that continuously produces the GLP-1 hormone so there’s no need for weekly injections. The approach, called gene therapy, uses inactivated viruses to carry a therapeutic gene to pancreatic cells.
