I been feeling a bit bloated and out of sorts recently. I seems to be a combination of the early start to the winter, the multiple meds I am on (insulin, 2xBP tablets and simvastatin) and being somewhat run down after a chest infection (was on anti-biotics for seven days). Anyway after seeing a TV program I thought I need to detox! The problem is that being Type I it is not that easy. I have cut out alcohol, replaced coffee by herbal tea and am drinking more water. However the people in the program were drinking large amounts of fruit juice which would give me massive BG spikes and probably make me feel worse. Has anbody with Type I tried to detox and how did you do it? I am feeling a bit better but only aout 5%.

Hi Stephen.

As far as I know, bar giving up alcohol and coffee which you've already done, unless you're eating/drinking anything considered medically toxic (ie. poisonous) you shouldn't have any need to 'detox'. I have read many times about the detoc industry who try to push it as a necessity when all you really need to do is what have already done.

Water is excellent, as is moderate exercise, preferably in fresh air and a good healthy, varied diet. If you have any particular deficiencies, you may benefit from vitamin or mineral supplements but some can be overdosed and make you feel worse.

This is just what I've read or heard from people who have nothing to sell and are medically qualified. You may of course, choose other options. 🙂

Detox is snake oil mate. It's as bad as that powerband/balance band rubbish that was all the rage not so long ago.

Too right.

However, if anyone really feels a need for something miraculously herbal, I am a distributor hoping to fund my penchant for travel by selling this wonderful product:

GLUCOBATE (click on it)

For centuries, Maronesian healers have used precious extracts of the tropical muskmelon to regulate blood sugar. And now scientists recognize what natural practitioners have always known: The bioactive compounds in Glucobate? increase insulin production by regenerating sensitive beta-cell receptors ? in effect, rebooting your pancreas to restore healthy functioning.

But don't just take our word for it. Clinical studies presented at the 2004 Triennial Symposium of Diabetology prove Glucobate?:

* Reduces blood sugar by 53% and returns pancreo-peptide production to healthy rates.
* Stimulates glucose uptake, increases insulin production, and normalizes protein metabolism.
* Is 93% effective in reversing Type 2 diabetes and 87% effective in reversing Type 1 diabetes.

Give me a little time to arrange a suitable Paypal address and a Swiss account.

To return to the original question - I have never detoxed. However, you have cut out two of the things that cause are bodies stress which should help you. The other thing you could do is drink a lot more water (dehydration can make you feel sluggish), and make meals from scratch - staying away from processed food - so you give yourself a break from additives.

If you continue to feel bloated you may want to see your GP - for some advice as to what may be causing it.

Hi all,
I was told off yesterday for pointing out that advertising ones own products on this forum is not appropriate. Surely this is just blatant advertising of a product that claims to cure or reverse type 2 diabetes - why is this being allowed - Northerner would not allow it. If anyone wants to shout at me for pointing this out - please do so - but remember that there are reasons for the rule and advertising a product that makes such claims cannot be appropriate on a diabetes forum - how does anyone know whether this has been medically approved apart from anything else.😱🙂Bev

HA HA HA - I HAVE JUST NOTICED THAT IT CLAIMS TO CURE TYPE 1 DIABETES TOO........................................................

Hi Bev - not sure if you read the PS in the post you quoted or if you are making fun of yourself.

Hi Margie,
Just playing the game with Alan, who is being really quite rude considering he is a virtual newcomer to the site and is blatantly advertising his book on here.😱Bev

Bev - I'm sure I'm not the only moderator who checked out the webpage supplied by AlanS on this thread, and once I was assured it was not advertising, I left it.

I thought Alan's spam-that-is-not-spam was a very funny joke, and I don't feel he has been in any way rude or spammy. One might remember that he was asked to come on here and chat about his book.

Hi Copepod,
I could be wrong here - but surely if someone is giving a link to their own book on amazon - this is advertising.🙂Bev

In thread "Do the Professionals really know best?" AlanS did give a link to his own book on Amazon, in post #63, but as answer to Donna's question in post #25. Advertising, yes, but also replying to a quesry by another board member. So, that's why we allowed it to stay. If you have any concerns about advertising posts, please alert Moderators by PM.
