I am sorry to post this here but I really am getting a bit desperate now. I won't go into details but the Social Services think that my daughter, type 1 from birth, may have trouble looking after her daughter, also type 1 from birth. My daughter has done everything asked of her, carb counting and sesor etc, but they are still not happy. The ss think that my daughter needs 24 hour care??? The family can only do so much. My daughter and her baby have been in hospital for almost a year now because of this. Has this happened to anyone else? We are feeling a bit up against it at the moment and wondered if there was anyone else that has gone through this.

I'm so sorry to hear about your family's situation, Lady Willpower. Sorry, I can't offer any advice. I hope things improve for you all asap.

Welcome to the forum, Lady Willpower. I'm guessing that Rhiannon (mentioned in your signature) is your daughter? Her baby and her have been in hospital for the year since baby's birth? Do either have any other physical or mental health issues? Does your daughter have any other children? Any involvement with baby's father?
Actually, in view of social services involvement, it's probably best not to answer those questions on a public forum, nor give any details such as name, area etc.
I can only suggest speaking to trained staff of Diabetes UK Helpline when it opens at 9am tomorrow. There is one number for England / Wales / Northern Ireland and another for Scotland.

How awful for you all. Are social services implying you're daughter can't adequately care for her baby because of her diabetes and proposing to take the baby into Local Authority care? Is the social worker hospital based or one from Children's Services? All I can suggest is that you call a meeting with the Team Manager to clarify concerns and help to implement a care plan for your daughter and grand daughter.

Hi @Lady Willpower , sounds like a very difficult and uncertain situation for you and your daughter. It bust be very stressful. Are the difficulties due to your daughter having issues with her own diabetes?

It sounds like quite a delicate situation so if you would like to talk through this in more depth, it may be helpful to speak with the Diabetes UK helpline team? They would be happy to chat to you confidentially and talk through different options and scenarios with you?
