Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Morning all 🙂.....So had Desmond day on tuesday, and have to say it was very good indeed, amazing what you can learn in one day, the misses was very impressed as she learnt more about diabetes and now understands the in's and out's, i would urge anyone who has been diagnosed recently to attend as it really does help, nice job NHS never thought i would be saying that in my life time 😉 the room was packed out!! me and the misses were the youngest there which i thought a bit odd as i thought there would be younger peeps there to, they gave are results from blood test which was taken last monday Hba1c was 8.0 which i was very happy about so the last 3 months has paid off with diet and meds. then i looked at Cholesterol and that was 6.16 which to my understanding is not great, Hdl was 1.61 not bad at all, so all in all very happy but tad worried about the high reading for cholesterol, So had doctors yesterday follow up from last week regards to high blood presure and he tells me that i do have high blood preasure, he told me that they do not diagnose high blood preasure lightly, but my readings have been high since being dianosed with diabetes 3 months ago, he has put me on a tablet called Felodipine, anyone else on this tablet? and makes me wonder is this a start of other probelms to come, thanks for listening everyone 😉

I'm not a doctor of course but I thought - and no doubt someone will soon ciorrect me LOL if I'm wrong - that the first line BP treatment of choice for diabetics were ACE inhibitors? (or ARBs if ACE not tolerated) because of their added kidney protection - which I don't think (and previous comment stands!) calcium channel blockers were kidney protective?

Ok..... i think a plane just flew over my head  you no more than me lol....i no i no it's not hard 😉

LOL - the ACE inhibitor drugs all seem to end in ~pril (Lisinopril for instance) and the ARBs all seem to end in ~sartan (Olemesartan, Losartan etc)

That's how I knew instantly that Felodipine wasn't either of them. (There's a lot of Calcium Channel Blockers too - eg Amlodipine, whatever LOL)

I learned all this from reading diabetes forums! (well not all of it by any means - but BP and Cholesterol levels are the two most common other common probs people talk about other than D itself.)

My post was just 'idly' commenting, Oooh, I always thought this, does anyone else think the same as me? and then of course 'I wonder why it differs?' - just for interest really .....

That's helpful Maisie, thanks!

Two things I've learned today then - the other one being I didn't even know there was a BP Association !

I can easily stick to one forum again if you like? ie not this one!

Hi jalapino,

There may be a reason as to why you were prescribed a CCB.

This is the usual route for blood pressure meds but as long as the one you are given works I would not be unduly worried.

This also tells you about the one you have been prescribed.

Fantastic website and lots of info on there too.....now no more about what the drugs are used for many thanks 🙂
