Hi all, thankyou for your welcoming messeages! Ive read a couple of times about the DESMOND course which i have to book myself into but can anyone tell me what its about. I asked my nurse if it was a hairdressing course but she obviously either had never seen the programme or just thought i was stupid!🙂

Diabetic Education Self Mangement Of Newly Diagnosed I think.

Tells you the basic stuff and gives you pointers about diet and the services available to you.

I think you need to have a chat to your doctor or nurse and they will put you up for it.

Hi Nickie
Caroline is correct
You have to be referered by your practice nurse or GP.
Just google desmond course it will help you.

Thanks i will look it up and see what it says. My nurse told me she gives me the number of our local hosp and i book the course myself!

Hi Nickie Yes thats right you have to book it yourself. I was asked to get my latest HBA1C results the week prior to the course and to complete a medication questionaire so we could understand a little more about them in relation to diabetes when I went. We had an information book and handouts and each session we attended covered a different topic but was a follow on from the previous session so we were supposedly learning as we went along. You get to keep the books etc maybe its time I refered back to mine though 😉 we had a subject each session which I had to wait 6 months after initial diagnosis before there was a space free for me as they were all full up!

Good luck and enjoy it its there to make use of for free! :D
