Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum, so I'm going to introduce myself quickly; my name is Ronan, a French industrial design student and I am currently preparing my graduation project about "Diabetes management". This is the final project of my master degree in product design, specialised in "Responsible Innovation".
So regarding my project, I'm still at an early stage on my "design process": I have to define the user. I was thinking of children, because products are not really designed for their needs and it's quite hard for a child to manage this disease, in different aspects: food, injection, blood control and so on - but I'm not going to explain that to you, you know diabetes better than me! One quick thing I noticed is that products regarding blood control and insuline injection are not designed for those users: actually, a 5 years-old child and a 50 years-old person use almost the same product. Maybe there's something to change regarding that -
I have to identify problems and opportunities; I hope to get feedbacks from people who are faced with diabetes. Products that do not work, their concerns about the consequences of bad management, what changes do they want to have regarding the management and so on.
I have to mention that my goal as a designer is not to change the shape of an insuline pen, it's more than that - I can't cure the disease, but I can try at least to make the process more "human" and integrated into diabete people everyday life.
Again, it's not a marketing research, nor a scientific one: it's a design research, so it means that I have to be in touch with parents and their children, and maybe even to meet them, to observe the way they manage diabetes. This observation is the key point of my research, the starting point of my project. Childrens and parents feelings is a very important point, to me.
Thanks in advance, and if you have more question, don't hesitate to ask, I'll answer with pleasure!
Looking to hear from you very soon,
Ronan
