Hi Guys

Long time no hear - I have lost over 5 stone- great! Doctor said that next time i come in, my medication may be reduce - Even better! Now I am going through a bout of depression. I finally thought I had knocked it on the head over 6 years ago. How I am wrong. I am desperate not to get back on anti-depressants again. I was weeping like a baby this morning. I tried to do some CBT techniques and it felt WORSE. I know there are people worse than me, but the last thing I need is more meds. Currently, I am on Metformin (2 X 2 a day), High blood pressure meds, and a CPAP machine! You get the picture....... This kind of crept up slow on me, been out of real work for nearly two years. Sorry to waffle on.
Peace and Love Rustee 2011

Rustee hi nice to see you posting on the forum a huge well done on your 5 stone weight loss to wow thats just amazing.
Im sorry to hear of your bout of depression as a fellow sufferer one thing I do know is depression can come and go like a change in the wind it makes you think your doing well and boom before you know it the dark clouds are surrouding you,Firstly do you have any support within the family? Also I dont know if you already do this but maybe writing things down in a scrap book or diary may help sometimes writing things down can make you look back over it and see if any pattern appear with your depression..
Lastly I know it means very little over a forum but please keep posting and I hope things start to improve for you ASAP xx

Hi Rustee, so sorry that you are finding yourself down in the Pit :( You have done amazingly well losing all that weight and hopefully reducing meds, and all that can take a lot out of a person. Be kind to yourself and a little selfish too - look after you for a while rather than expending energy on others (I know I do this myself when feeling down, as a diversion from my worries).

You are welcome to come here and vent whenever you need to, I hope you are feeling brighter soon 🙂

Thanks Guys, you are the best. I appreciate it. I just really thought I had got it licked. Not all of my family know just yet. I try to put on a smiling face and be positive to them. I used to write my thoughts in a book years ago. I might try and do that. I was told that although I had sorted some issues before, it might be just that bit deeper. So muggings here decides to get a self help book on CBT and do it myself! Whoa! it was a wee too much. Anxiety big time.

Hi again Rustee,
Yes you sound like me,my father who has known me all my life has no idea i have suffered depression or been on any meds for it yet my MIL who i have had in my life for 10 years knows the ins and outs of it all.... I think personally deep issues never truly get sorted out you may think yes ive cracked it but they will always be that time in the day when the issues pop back into your head and you start to fret and become anxious...Anyways abit to deep for early eve on a Friday for me but if you ever need to vent or have a chat then plz feel free to PM me x

Well done Rustee. 5 stone is a massive acheivement. I hope you feel better for it physically.

I think self-help can only take you so far. There's always something hiding in the shadows that you won't dare go near unless someone else is there to shine a torch on it and hold your hand.

If you can get on the waiting list for a counsellor/psychologist, it might give you better tools and more determination to kick the locked doors in and face the nasties.

Best of luck.🙂

Rob

Thanks Rob, I agree with you. You sound like person who has been there and done that.
Thanks for the word of encouragement too

Hi Rustee,

You could ask your GP or refer yourself to IAPT services, they offer counselling or CBT at primary care level and are supposed to be across the UK. It is very hard to maintain CBT without a mentor as such, it requires some discipline, and agree with Rob, if you don't tackle the root, which goes against our self preservation instincts, it keeps on popping back up.

Good luck, hope you start to feel more positive soon and get on top of your anxiety 🙂

Well done on your weight loss. I'm so sorry you are getting depressed again. I think Hanmillmum has a good suggestion.

I do hope things soon improve.

Sorry you are feeling so low. Its hard but when we try and deal with our deep seated issues the tears will flow - going through the process with someone else helps to an extent.

I don't know the cause of your depression - but maybe there is a support group in your area for the issue you feel most stuck with. If there is then that would be a great help as you would be able to share experiences and coping strategies with people who will be able to empathise with you.

So sorry to hear you are so depressed Rustee. It is an unenviable position to be in. Depression is very insidious and there are times when it hits for no apparent rhyme or reason. I have suffered with it for years, the best few years rest , (if I can put it that way?) I have ever had from it was when I had my children, who are now grown up!
I hope that things can clear themselves for you soon, but in the meantime try to hold on and know things can and will get better, take care,

Shirl
