The Department of Health (DH) has released an official tender for a new outsourcing provider to manage and enhance its NHS Electronic Staff Records (ESR) service.

DH had released a prior information notice in September revealing its plans to find a new supplier to provide the Oracle-based service, which is being run by healthcare IT provider McKesson until August 2015. The new contract is worth ?250 million to ?450 million over a five year and nine month period.

I'd love to know where these figures come from! 🙄

We will see a lot more of this because of trade treaties like Europe that we have signed up to making us contractually obliged to offer the contracts anybody that wants them.

The only good thing about GP commissioning is it stops the big French, German and even American healthcare companies getting block contracts for particular services.

A read I found rather scary a few weeks ago. Though it talks of mainly trans atlantic trade, it also applies just as much to Europe and any other country we have treaties with.
