Can someone please advice me how or where i go for dentistry as I am currently not working and recieve ESA and Universal credit as I suffer from arthritis as well as being Type 1 diabetic. I have lost a number of teeth and a few more quite soon. Is there anywhere I can get free dentistry as I will need some teeth replacement as I can not afford £3K a tooth

Any help and advise would be appreciated

Paul Hobbs

Welcome @hobbsie75 🙂 If you receive below a certain level of Universal Credit, you can get free dental care. The amount of UC depends on your circumstances, eg do you care for a child or children.

You mention losing teeth and a cost of £3k. Is that for an implant? Be aware that the NHS only covers necessities not ‘cosmetic’ dentistry, so, for example, you might get a bridge but not an implant, depending on your individual situation.

Your first step is to find an NHS dentist to register with if you’re not registered already.

Hope you are able to satisfy the criteria to get the dental support you need @hobbsie75

Where I live it made the local news when a dental practice started taking on a limited number of NHS patients. There were queues around the block many hours before the practice opened on the morning.

I’m not quite sure how we’ve allowed the situation to emerge where so few NHS slots are available in dental surgeries. I am sure you’d be able to chart a deterioration in the nation’s dental health over my lifetime. :(

you will be very lucky to get a dentist on the NHS if you do you may have to travel a fair distance sorry to say

I am also looking for an NHS dentist and have been unable to find one with availability for a number of years, despite being (currently) eligible for free dental care. It's such a frustrating situation knowing you can receive free dental care, but not being able to access it.
I've been using this site to look for dentists every few weeks:

I wish you luck with your search.
