Just a question about dentists Cuz I go back to mine in September for my 6monthly check up am I entitled to see the hygienist as well

You will need to ring your dental practice to find out, I'm sure different practices will be doing different things.

I would check they are even doing routine check ups, my dentist thinks it will be the start of next year before routine things are back to somewhat normal.

Are you asking if it's a freebie because you have diabetes? If this is the case then nope you pay as you did before or if on certain benefits then obviously no charge. I suspect though that many dental services will be very restricted due to the virus.

You might be lucky. My practict reopened a couple of weeks ago and I had a check up, and saw the hygienist, last week.

I went last week. I was told not to be late as they would not be able to see me if I was. Waited outside and they came and let me in to the dentist, no one allowed in waiting room. He was in full PSE kit and so was the dental nurse. Was then taken straight to the hygienist for her bit. In and out in about 20 minutes and paid as usual. Hope you have a good experience when you go. 🙂

I have the same question, but about the orthodontist. I have my appointment in a few weeks, but I don't know how it will be with the new national lockdown coming.

@PeterRyanter12 How many weeks away is your appointment? When did you call them to ask about it?

My local dental services are only doing emergencies and I believe there are issues with orthodontists here too, but it might be different in your area. If it was a while ago you called them, call again and get their advice. If it was very recently, then they still should have given you an idea what was happening even if it was dependent on circumstances eg “If X happens, you’ll need to call back in Jan, if Y happens contact us two weeks before your appointment to check” etc etc

So, basically call them again and ask for clarification even if that clarification is only that you’ll have to call back at a later date.

My Dentist posted on Facebook they are staying open, and are triaging people.

I understood all dentists would be operating as usual no government rules on them closing.

Had an email from my practice last week saying that they would be continuing to open in a Covid-secure manner through the new lockdown, and today I booked my next hygienist appointment. My wife, though, is registered at a different practice and tried to book her hygienist appointment and was told they were suspended but that she could have one if she went private.

When I went to my dentist in September, with a couple of broken teeth/fillings, I was told they could not do anything involving a drill, and I was not allowed to use a mouth rinse. They did a temporary repair and suggested I would be offered something more permanent some time next year.

I havent had a routine checkup since the pandemic started.

I think you’ll just have to call your orthodontist and see what they are offering unfortunately @PeterRyanter12

I think you could have done it. What did you do in the end?

It depends on the individual dentist @virgilius Are you having dental concerns?

The situation is different now than it was back in August last year when this thread was started.
