Dont laugh but i have booked a dentists appointment or the 15th May. Am going private as cant get a NHS one for love or money. Its in T####### near me and has a ramp for disabled access and is all ground floor so no access isssues for me. I have not been to the dentist for a long time. But I need to go as theeth are in a bad way. This place was recomended to me as very good for nervous people. I blabbed this to the nice lady on the phone and she was very kind and nice saying we get all kinds theres nothing to worry about at all. The nice thing is that they are all lady dentists (sorry men). A staff member is going to go with me so thats reasurance for me . So while am i cacking it. I know its going to cost a lot but i have money in a another account so thats ok. (not over the benifitt savings limit)
Yours sh###ing herself

Take a deep breath and go........poor mouth care can be so disruptive to ones system and can have awful effects on your system. It's really, really not painful nowadays and might not be as bad as you fear. I always reckon on dividing the bill by 52 ....weeks in the year.....will NOT suffer toothache. Money well spent for a glorious gleaming set of nashers.........

Gail, I went private in desperation a couple years ago and honestly the difference is amazing. I'm so much more at peace with going to the dentist, attend all my check ups now and they help me take so much better care of my teeth to prevent them going wrong. They explain things so gently and kindly and nothing is rushed. It's a whole different experience.

My NHS dentist got struck off and there were no others with space in the area so I had to go private. I'm glad I did, the NHS one was brutal!

Aww deep breaths lovely and you'll be fine, with my OCD I hadn't been to the dentist since 2019 thankfully as I kept cancelling my appointments I was still under the NHS but developed 2 abscesses in November last year so needed an emergency appointment, wasn't my dentist as he was off but I also got a lovely woman who was understanding of my situation and my other teeth weren't in bad shape, I've seen my own dentist twice since then, one for a check up and second to have scans because I want all my teeth out but I don't mind seeing him as he's pretty fit  he started there when he first qualified when I was still in high school and now solely owns the practice xx

Well done @gail2 for booking the appointment, that is a big step, pleased that someone is able to go with you as you are so nervous. You will find a big difference at a private dentist,
i hope so as last time i went i had a bad experience he was a t### rude and put me off from going again

I go this Thursday and im cacking it. My Diverticulitis is playing up because of my stress levels over it. I know well that Wednesday night i will not sleep well, however I'm determined to go through with it

todays the day 130pm taxi picks me up im so nervous got a staff member coming with me for support Today is going to be an expensive day help

I understand. I didn't go for 25 years. I had a dentist I liked then moved and only went to a dentist when I had pain ( had a root filling) and a friend recommended her dentist. Sadly I moved again and spent so long worried about finding the perfect dentist I didn't go. I eventually went to a local private dentist not currently taking nhs patients. He was brilliant. He took things slowly and was very kind. I now go to a hygienist there. He is popular and due to retire. I hope I get to see him again in the hope he can recommend someone again. Fortunately I had gone again a number of years before I was diagnosed with diabetes as I know oral health becomes more important.
The benefit of private is they can take more time.
Enjoy it.

Hope it is not as bad as you fear, and I agree with @saffron15, private dentist do seem to take more care and be more understanding. Will be thinking about you.

20 years if i had known it was that easy i wood have gone private years ago. The dentist was very kind when i told her how nervous i was . According to her my teeth are in good condition, just need 2 extractions and a visit to the hygenist first of all. It was nowhere where i thought it would cost. The only thing she did recommend was that i buy an electric brush with a timer
one thing i would say is that if like me you have not been in ages please bite the bullet and book that appointment dont be afraid. None of it hurt at all.

Glad you found it to be such a positive experience Gail.

Pleased you found it positive and no where near the cost you feared. Hopefully after this course of treatment you will continue to go regularly. I am lucky that I do not have a phobia of dentists and go regularly every 9 months which is the frequency at my dentist.
