Hi peeps,

I will apologise first, cause this is a rant, and I'm totally hacked off.

Ive just phoned my dentist, to make appointments for me and Nathan. Only to be told we have been removed from there register . Basically because we havent been in the last 8 mths, they have removed us, no warning, no letter nothing. Apperently it is my responsibility to keep a check on when appointments are needed for check ups ... at no point have I ever been informed this, Im not thick if I had have been told this I would have done so. Admittedly, I have had a lot to deal with over the past few months, so check ups have not been on my mind, I wrongly assumed we would be sent for. Now I have just explained Nathan is type1 diabetic and 16, and he needs a dentist, I can wait... Nathan is important ... and have just been in a round about way told tough, thats my problem not there's .... We have to re-apply ... go on the waiting list ... which is massive ...

Unfortunatly, I just span off on one ... more due to frustration .... all I wanted was an answer to the question, why wasnt I notified this would happen or given prior warning ... They just passed the book and said it wasnt there problem or responsibility.

God give me strenghth ... life is chuffing hard ...

I'm sure they are in breach of some rules there. I was told that you had to lapse for 18 months before they can kick you off the register.

Possibly there is a mechanism for raising a complaint.

My dentist appointments are yearly!

My dentist doesn't send reminders for appointments, but if you don't show or give 24 hours notice of cancellation they charge you ?20. If you cancel more than three times they warn you that you will be removed if you don't attend the fourth time. Seems a bit unfair to remove you after such a short time without notification that it is about to happen as it's a pretty important thing!

Im about to phone the Dental health services department for our area, to see what can be done etc, even if they reinstate Nathan at this practice I will be happy. The trouble is there are hardly any dentists in our area that take on NHS patients, they all prefer private ... 😡 .... and Im not in a financial position to afford private ...

I would check the situation with your Primary Care Trust, who can tell you the rules and suggest other local NHS dentists.

Here is a link to the British Dental Associations webiste for the Public.

What you were told sounds iffy - according to the website I have linked to no one is registered anymore but you can continue to see the dentist. What it does say is that when you have your checkup you should be told how long you should leave it till the next checkup for most people that is more than 6 months. So to say you haven't been in 8 months seems ridiculous. My dentist sends reminders now - but initially they didn't.

There is a link on there to find other dentists in the area - and hopefully you will have some success.

Heidi did you get anywhere on the phone? x

Hi peeps ...

Just a quick update, the dental authority based in Carlisle, are looking into the situation, to see what can be resolved, other than that I have to wait.

Thank you for the links, I will be checking a lines out .... Its not the end of the matter for me ... cause the whole thing is out of order.

Did you talk to the organ-grinder or the monkey at the dentists(not the dental authority)? If you spoke to whoever answered the phone, there is usually a practice manager or as someone else said a PCT to refer if the practice manager was as equally stubborn as the receptionist!!!
