Patients are to be assessed for their dementia risk during routine check-ups at their GP.

As part of an NHS trial, doctors will be told to warn them about their risk of developing the degenerative disease.

They will be told to give them ‘brain age’ tests as part of the standard check-up – and to warn patients if their poor lifestyles are hastening the decline of their brains and so exposing them to dementia.
