Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
afternoon all

Not a newbie to Type 2 as I was diagnosed 18 months ago. New to the board though so hello all. Reason for joining - even though my blood sugar levels seem to be coming down well under a new med (empaglififlozin) it’s as if the diagnosis has just hit me. Dreadful anxiety attacks, inability to sleep, palpitations. I think all caused by me having pins and needles in my hands and convincing myself it’s to do with the T2, even though the doc thinks it’s more likely a trapped nerve.

Not dealing with this mentally very well at the moment.

So how long have you had this (alleged) trapped nerve and is it long enough to have either been given treatments for it or to have been referred to someone to assist untrap it?

So what effect is all this having on your day to day blood glucose?

(This is important because if you have constantly higher BG and it does happen to be diabetes related - then the higher BG is likely to exacerbate the damage. Stress and the other symptoms very very often (though not 100% always) causes the BG to increase)

No, physio treatment is due to start. It’s the fact I have slight tingling in both hands plus my natural tendency to anxiety that leads me to think it will be down to the diabetes.

My HBA1C was initially very high when first diagnosed (over 100) and only came down slowly taking Metformin, remaining in the 80’s. Since starting the new med three months or so ago the last result was mid 60’s and will hopefully continue the same trend.

I don’t measure daily as I try instead to focus generally on my diet and losing weight. I am a worrier so trying to deal with the diagnosis that way rather than stressing daily worked for me. Well until now.

Hello Robbo
Welcome to the forum, and I hope we can help, you are already doing well and getting some good results. Dealing with the stress and anxiety of diabetes is difficult. There may be something that will help you on the main Diabetes UK site. If you sign on to the Learning Zone there is a section relating to stress https://learningzone.diabetes.org.uk/node/932/take. It includes a question/answer item that can help you make a coping plan, and a video of people talking about how they handled their anxieties.
I know its hard to try and stop worrying but worrying doesn't take away tomorrow's troubles, - it takes away today's peace.🙂
Good luck and look forward to hearing how it all goes for you.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Going from my own experience, I would suggest positive action on your part is the best option. For me I made drastic changes, which though difficult worked and quickly settled my head. If you can get in the mindset that you can do something to make things better, it will help.
