Had my check up and was so pleased with my result. Nurse was too, however she didn't want to discuss any of my questions, which I had carefully written down as I tend to forget, or how I had achieved my weight and BG levels..

I tried but was stonewalled, same with strips, no joy and told to see a Dr.

Came out really deflated and fed up for the first time since diagnosis.:(

I'm sorry you were met with indifference and intransigence slipper :( But please don't let this get you down, as you know you have lots of people here who REALLY appreciate what you have achieved and support you all the way!

Perhaps the nurse was having a bad day, but it's still a shame that she couldn't spare a little time to congratulate you and listen to your questions.

A big WELL DONE from me! 🙂

I get that too so you have my sympathy slipper.:(

I think they forget that we're not just a bundle of symptoms. A pity the nurse didn't make an effort there.

Still, as Northey says, we are here to do the pat on the back stuff. 🙂

Perhaps go and see the GP and try him/her out with your questions etc. Hopefully, even with the length of appointments these days he/she should be able to answer some of them.

Good luck (and well done from me too!),

Andy 🙂

Thank you Northerner and Kate, feel better now. Dusted myself down and kicked a few dustbins and getting on with my day🙂

Was surprised how it affected me though, thats not like me.

Having your review is quite an emotional experience - even though I have had indications that mine was going to go well this morning, I was still nervous about what I might hear. I also wanted to be congratulated by those who have professional perspective on things, and I have no doubt you would have felt the same way. In my case, I was listened to and had a good discussion with my consultant, whereas you were brushed off like a troublesome flea - so no wonder you came away feeling it was a negative experience.

I would say the biggest part of these reviews, especially when you are as new to it as you are, is the communication and reassurance, or good constructive advice you receive, which seem to have been in poor supply for yours.

Buy the nurse some diabetic chocolate as a 'thank-you' 😱 😉

Hi slipper,

You live with diabetes 24/7 and you know that there is a lot of work that goes into improving things.
Unless your nurse has diabetes then she hasn't got a clue about how much information, daily routine, food choices, coping with stress and exercise has to be learned.
She didn't learn that praise is a reward that costs nothing and makes the patient feel better. I bet she would dish out the negative comments if you hadn't made an effort. Obviously she does not set the agenda regarding test strips and in view of her lack of concern then see the Dr. and let's hope that he can see more than she did.
Well done slipper.

She should have given you the well earned praise for meeting your targets, Slipper - no cost to her and would have made her day better, too 🙂

I say that because I know GPs and practice nurses, both ones I've consulted for myself and ones I know socially, are very frustrated when they're not allowed to do what they know to be the best for their patients.

It's just possible that she was as frustrated as you that she couldn't prescribe strips and that she had to pass you over to GP.

Slipper sorry you had such a rude unkind nurse today, they exist every where, please dont be to down on yourself, she should have a long hard look at her interpersonal skills.. xx hugs

Having re-read slipper's original post, perhaps we're being a bit hard on the nurse - slipper did say she was pleased with the results, just didn't want to answer questions or discuss strips.

Thanks for your kind words guys, but as said, Nurse was impressed with results, just wouldn't discuss any questions I had, very odd, bad day I guess. But not to give any advice except to carry on as I was, was pretty poor really, as I got where I did by self testing and advice from here.

Still, have had a good moan to wife, feel better now. She's a bit quiet though.:D
