Welcome to the forum.
Take one day at a time
Read up about the condition, a good place to start is the Learning Zone here or this link https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
How much you will need to do depends on what your HbA1C is that gave you your diagnosis and what if any medication you have been prescribed.
Some times it comes as a shock but can be a relief as it explains symptoms you may have been getting.
Please do come back with any questions but a bit more information about you diagnosis will help people make appropriate suggestions.

Thanks for replying. I've been prescribed Metformin 500mg starting 1 daily up to 4 daily
Also prescribed Atorvastatin 20mg one daily

T2 with a complicated mental health diagnosis here.
All I'd say is don't be reticent to mention your T2 diagnosis to anyone when it relates to your MH and also don't be afraid to mention your MH when it comes to how you're finding your diabetes diagnosis/management etc. They're each relevant to the other.

Yes increasing metformin over a few weeks is normal as it allows the body to get used to the medication and minimise any side effects, the other medication is a statin to help with cholesterol but seems to be prescribed regardless if diagnosed with Type 2.
Those should both be suitable with a low carb dietary approach if that is the route you feel may suit you. Many do find that a successful way though others try low calorie or shakes and soups to give them a kick start.
Even with medication dietary changes are needed.

Do you find the changes to diet are manifestly expensive
NO not really, actually cheaper as by adjusting portion size as well, meals like curries, chillies, make more portions.
No need to buy specific foods.
I bought a cooked chicken from Costco £4 and it made 8 meals. 4 just as was and 4 made into a curry.

8 meals from one chicken!!! I am impressed. How did you manage that? if you don't mind me asking?

We (OH and me) had some cold with salad day 1, cold with veg day 2, used the rest in a chicken curry with peppers, mushrooms, green beans which did 2 days for the two of us.
I do the same with mince beef 500g with added veg usually does 6 portions.

Sorry to hear you are finding it challenging to come to terms with your diagnosis @djack88utd

I completely agree with @ColinUK - mental health and diabetes health are intricately intertwined.

Some people experience a form of grieving around their diagnosis, with the outpouring of emotions that can involve including a jumble of anger, denial, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Sometimes all in one afternoon!
