Had a consultant appointment this morning - first one in about 4 years!! My hba1c has now come down to 49 - under 50 at last!! Ok not by much, but I've been through 4 basals in an attempt to get some sort of stability, have spent months at a time waking up at 3 am to test/inject/treat hypos, its all paid off! Huzzah!

The consultant was actually a lovely lady and listened to everything I had to say. She's switching me onto Tresiba (which I suggested to DSNs back in Feb but they refused!) to see how that works as I suffer with DP terribly. Liver, kidneys and cholesterol all good, and she's taken me off statins as well. I nearly fell off my chair in shock lol.

BUT best of all...she has put me on the waiting list for a pump!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS. I'm doing DAFNE at the end of the month and she didn't see the point of waiting until the course had been officially done as I already follow the principles of DAFNE and she completely agrees with me that I need to be pumping. She said it's likely to be about a year before I actually get my hands on one, but still! I am officially in the running :D

Finally feels like I am getting somewhere. I am so so pleased! :D :D :D :D

Excellent Sproggie - it really is worth its weight in gold having a consultant who's on our side!

Was she a reasonably 'young' lady?

Sounds like you had a great appointment.

Hi Jenny 🙂 yes she was, she wasn't much older than me I don't think - mid to late thirties? I actually had a debate with my dad about how old we thought she was because he thought 30 and I thought older haha! Was very helpful taking him along actually, he's always insisted my pre bolusing is me 'making a fuss' and she categorically told him no and that it was absolutely necessary and not to argue with me LOL. We both left feeling very impressed, both with how knowledgeable she was and how professional in how she dealt with our 8000 questions 🙂

I thought she'd be (comparatively) youthful - we've got some younger DSNs now at my clinic and I wouldn't mind swapping to one of them TBH. No they haven't the long experience - but they do have the very latest training, don't they? So if there's something - ANY thing! - newer that might conceivably help me especially with non- absorption of sites - I want to hear it.

Next question - why does she think it will be a year? I do know in pump pro-active clinics, they submit pump requests in batches and the CCG only consider requests and release funding for them in a similar way - and it's a PITA - but a whole year???

Yes definitely, and I think that's where I've gotten quite lucky because I initially was with an older DSN - I had to cancel an appointment with her back in Feb and rescheduled with the next nurse who was free - who happened to be much younger and 'with it' - stuck with her and she was the one who referred me to this consultant.

They have only been doing pumps in my area for the last 18 months and apparently have only just cleared the backlog - the last 'batch' of the backlog is going to get started on pumps at christmas/new year apparently. I've gone into the second 'batch' of 2018. I also happen to know that my local CCG has just been put into special measures - the report repeated the phrase 'financial mismanagement' several times so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Excellent news all round @Sprogladite 🙂, helpful consultant, good blood test results, new basal and on list for pump. What more could a young lady want! 😉🙂
A functional pancreas!

...or a pony. Yep keep the pancreas, I want a pony! LOL :D

I'm not sure I want a new pancreas cos transplants cause their own problems - and I can stay alive pretty well without that bit of my own. Were I like Las Creonistas - I may quite easily feel different. I don't want a pony either - I'd settle for a new lens in my left eye, please!

I'm sure we could get that arranged! Lol 🙂

Nice one, Sproggy.🙂
