I had to look up haemochromatosis! Sounds like that may be the root cause of the damage to your pancreas?

Are you on insulin or other kinds of meds?

I suspect that people will have to be careful with any advice based on your condition though.

Anyway, welcome to the forum! I'm sure there's some good advice coming your way nonetheless!

Andy 🙂

not on any meds for diabetes ,just diet and exercise at moment

That's good news.

So, did the medical people suggest that the diabetes was brought on by possible damage to your pancreas because of your other condition? It sounds like it is still producing insulin, but perhaps at a lower level?

From what you say about your physical pursuits, I assume that you're quite physically fit? I ask that because I cycle everywhere, but am considered obese by the BMI measurement (although, since my weight loss, I'm now just overweight)!

On that basis, would it be true to say that you don't fit the 'normal' type 2 profile, where diabetes is brought on by insulin resistance first and then damage to the pancreas?

Sorry for being so nosey! It's just that if you're going to get good advice here, people will need to know a bit more! 🙂

Andy

p.s. I am hoping that others will jump on anything that I may have stated incorrectly! 🙂

The doctor does say the haemochromatosis is the most likely cause of the diabetes as diabetes and under active thryiod which i have can all be brought on due to the very high level of iron in my blood, which does cause problems with liver.though i am classed as over weight ,even with cycling a do to try and keep on top of my weight.i am due to start treatment to get iron level under control.
