A GRIEVING daughter has hit out after her mother killed herself despite begging NHS 24 for help.
Beth Green dialled the helpline after her mum Jane called her, pleading to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. But Beth says when NHS 24 called Jane back, she was instead “passed around like a piece of paper”.
Jane was dealt with first by a call handler, who then conducted a three-way conversation involving a nurse before passing the case to a counsellor.
The counsellor arranged for a nurse to contact the distressed 62-year-old, who was crying and screaming for help down the phone line.
But despite having warned that she might take her life, Jane – who’d attempted an overdose a week earlier – was placed on a three-hour callback by a nurse.
Jane subsequently turned off her phone and a nurse who reached her voicemail closed down the call, meaning no
further action was taken.
