was diagnosed late last year hba1c 48 then been up to 53/51 now 46 all by just diet. Now started dapaflogozin today couldn’t take metformin and also changed off diuretic to another med, wanted to ask how does it make you feel mentally ? I’ve peed more than I would have with diuretic but drinking loads to feel relative ok will it be like this every day? I wasn’t able to go,far without needing toilet and my anxiety has gone on one. Tried checking bloods couldn’t get much which is standard for me. I have to be on something as I will be on steroids for another condition I have shortly . Advice reassurance would be good please am quite worried
Have peed sooo much today more than if was on diuretic but drinking lots
Now felt like I had hypo or is it anxiety? I’m a proper mess dunno whether to take tomorrow or not

@Booroo I take dapaglifozin and metformin. I started last September and was told I was likely to pee more and to stay hydrated. I definitely peed more. It works by increasing the amount of glucose leaving your body therefore helps with weight loss but the sugar can cause thrush, utis etc. You should have ketostix as there is a risk you can get ketoacidosis. It is rare. If it happens you are likely to feel unwell and need to check your pee. It is supposed to help cardiovascular health.
I've not had any infections nor ketoacidosis.
Do check with your Doctor what he hopes you will gain from it.

I was told about the peeing but it was like lots of times this morning is less this afternoon thank god so will see tomorrow, fingers crossed I don’t have keto I definitely think u would k ow if u did?

At the moment your HbA1C is low enough hopefully for thrush not to be too much of an issue as at that level there is not going to be a lot of excess glucose.
It is would not usually be prescribed when Hba1C is where yours is but as you mention with addition of steroids which could increase blood glucose unless you are very cautious with your diet which is problematic with that medication as very low carbs is not advised.

Thank you

Hope things settle down for you @Booroo, especially your anxiety, and that you feel able to continue with the Dapagliflozin to see if the excess weeing eases off. Often there’s a bit of the body getting used to time needed when you start a new medication.

If your worries continue do check back with your GP or nurse to let them know and discuss a way forward - that may offer you a different dose or something to help.

Thank you it’s really hard. I’ve had loads of diagnostics act lately for my sarcoidosis which also got diagnosed end of last year I’d like to think I’ve even proper battered with all of this in last few weeks and another new med body saying uh oh something else fight or flight mode activated, will see how the night goes and go from there, thanks for your reply.

I was prescribed ketostix. Given you are so worried about dapaglifozin you need to discuss your concerns with your Doctor. I agree with the comments that you are unlikely to be peeing much sugar. I was put on dapaglifozin when my hba1c was close to 51. I havent had any thrush or uti. I took the possibility of ketones as a warning but have had no problems.
I haven't taken dapaglifozin since Saturday. I intend to start taking it tomorrow. I had a sickness and diarrhea bug Sunday and had nothing to eat til soup Tuesday evening. I've had two meals today so will take it tomorrow.

Good you’ve had no problems with it. Hope you feel better now I was advised of sick days. I’m wondering if it was this morning as new to me and wanted to get rid of what was there? I also have anxiety which isn’t helpful
