Hi I'm new I have type 2 diabetes and I'm a serious binge drinker! Help
Didn't know that about metformin and drink amigo. I had 1 1/12 glasses of rose last night. Will have to look up instructions . Funnily, chocolate is a thing I have lost the need for, and alcohol I only have occasionally. You've made the first and most important step by admitting you drink too much on occasion Norman. Do you simply find it difficult to set yourself limits or are you needing to drink most days?
You know the dangers which is why you chose the title so the next step is to decide whether you're prepared to accept help. It takes courage to admit it's a problem. You'd only say 'help' if you feel unable to stop it yourself. I think you'll know there are hazards attached to Metformin and heavy drinking because you could hypo and it's not an easy mix anyway. I know many people drink moderately on Metformin even though it's suggested they shouldn't mix.
Would you feel able to admit your problem to your GP and be referred for help? It's really the only way to go at the moment. The type of alcohol you're drinking will also be a factor because the high sugar types will be a bigger problem in large amounts.
Wishing you well Norman. Hope you are coping generally with your new diagnosis.
