Hi Damo
Welcome to the forum.
Can't answer your question, but there are those better qualified on the forum. I am tablet and diet controlled and have no experience of insulin use.

Hi Damo,

If you've just started on insulin then your health care team are probably still trying to get the dosage amounts right. What kind of insulin are you on, and how many injections a day? In my first week after leaving hospital I kept in contact with the nurses and gave them my blood sugar readings. They then told me what adjustments to make.

Of course, one of the big factors in your levels will be the amount of food, especially carbohydrate - bread, potatoes, rice pasta etc. - you are eating.

Give it time, and you'll get the knowledge of how much insulin you need to get your levels into the ideal ranges. Feel free to ask any questions here - there are an awful lot of very knowledgeable and experienced people here!🙂

hi damo mine when i was first diagnosed was over the 30 mark and i was really ill. took ages to come down and then i couldnt seem to keep it down as my insulin didnt seem to cover what i ate, but thankfully i found out if i still had a highish level after i had eaten then i could cover this with more insulin and also that my insulin requirements were still being assessed to find the correct level which i would have to say is probably what your team is soing. it will come down in time damo you just need to be a little patient.

Hi Damo,
My son is 8 weeks in and still has some crazy levels! As has been said carb counting is the key, or it could be that your insulin isnt the right amount for you, but its probably a bit early for you yet to be overly worried about! Hopefully you can talk it over with your diabetic nurse? Bev
