Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
My friends 20 year old daughter went go karting with the college and came off the go kart. She felt fine at the time and got up and went home. later the same day/evening she started to feel unwell and was in pain.

The upshot is she was taken to hospital where tests and scans were done and she has damaged one of her kidneys and her pancreas. So with this in mind, does anyone know is it likely she will develop diabetes because of the damage to the pancreas? I just want to be armed with the information incase they want help.

I am sorry to hear this Caroline :( I suppose it would depend on the damage done. As Type 1 is due to an autoimmune attack on specific cell types and Type 2 is more related to insulin resistance of the body's cells I wouldn't have thought diabetes would result, unless, of course, the pancreas had to be reomoved - hope it's nowhere near that bad though.

Friend of mine was diagnosed T1 after a motorcycle ran over his stomach. That was back in the 1960's. Been on insulin ever since.

thanks, they think it is pretty bad so time will tell.
