Ok so we are now 6 weeks in to the whole diabetic thing....So annoyed right now!!!
Been at work since 6pm had a family meal for my mums birthday so expected bm to be high and it was at 12. At 10pm it was 8.4 but then at 11pm had gone down to 4.2, The fact it had gone down sooo quickly and I still had another two hrs to go at work I thought I would have a bit of sugar, (which is what I do quite often at work because I do a very physical job) at 1am sugar was at 15.3 which was high but didnt think it would go any higher as it was over 2hrs after I had the sugar.
Everyone stayed behind after work and I thought i would join in with a drink or two to bring my bm down. So that was at 1am. Checked my sugars again as 3am and they are 19.2 and I have a keatons reading of 0.2 which I know is ok but is the highest its been since I was taken into hospital.

So gone down stairs, drunk lots of water and walking round and it started to go down to 14.9 BUT checked again 20mins later and it was 15!!! how?

Just had enough, half of me wants to go back into hospital and be on the sliding scale so I dont have to deal with anything, the machine and doctors can do it all!

Also when i sat down to eat the sugary stuff I started to feel like I was about to throw up, and just felt so god dam bad it was unreal. Then I got really bad shakes and was freezing cold, I have never shaken so much before. And I was just really out of it and couldn't focus, and my eyes couldn't focus. Really thought I was gonna pass out.

Just erg, and I am so tired from work and I am up trying to lower my bm and I have to get up early to have my morning insulin because I am on set amounts at set times, and I am not allowed to self dosage yet! ERG just one of them nights!!!!!!!

Hi Becky, sorry to hear you have had such a rough night :( It's so annoying that you haven't been taught to correct your levels yet, as it is pretty clear this is what was required (and indeed essential, should ketones have been increasing). You should at the very least have been taught the 'Sick Day Rules', which is a set of steps to follow when your levels remain stubbornly high and ketones begin to rise. You should ask your team to provide instructions as soon as you can, as this can be a potentially dangerous situation. There is a general list here, but take note that the doses suggested are just an example and may be too much in your particular case - it needs to be tailored to the individual:

Those high levels will not have helped your mood :( Hope you are feeling much better by the time you wake 🙂

What a horrible night for you. I hope you feel better today.
As you have just been diagnosed I think you have done really well to understand what is going on and react accordingly. You also now have some info for fine tuning.

When you had the sugar at 11pm, how much did you have? Do you know how many grams of carbs? Perhaps you could have less next time until you have worked out how many grams of carbs you need to raise you to the level you want?

When you had a drink what was it? Some drinks contain carbs which can make levels rise dramatically and then fall later.

I'm sorry to hear you have had such a tough time. It is difficult when you are first diagnosed to know exactly what to do, but it is a learning curve. When I was first diagnosed my family hid everything with sugar in it and if they wanted sweets they wouldn't have them in front of me, which made me feel even worse. SInce then we have learned a lot and they are quite happy to share a couple of biscuits as a treat or a bar of chocolate as a treat. I try to take each day as it comes, sometimes I have sweet treats but not every day.

I hope you feel better.
