I got 3 meters yesterday accu-check active,I have spent the last hour going through the book trying the meter out......well to put it nicely it is pants!!

It is clumsy to use and slow...and the most annoying thing is that you cannot change from mmol/l to mg/dl, so the flippin thing is stuck on mmol 😱 quite frankly this is no good for me....looks like another trip to see dn!

She is going to love me! :D

mmol/l is the correct standard for the UK Ant - mg/dl is used in the USA and some European countries 🙂 Do you mean it's stuck on mg/dl, is it showing readings in the 100s? If so, you need to convert by dividing by 18 to get mmol/l.

It is stuck on mmol/l alan my other meter is mg/dl which is the readings I am used to I tested my bloods with new meter and came up 0.6 when converted is 11.0 🙂

OK I am really confused now........one meter says 10.2 mmol/l

The other meter says 0.6 mmol/l

Surely 0.6 I would be very dead?

Ant, 0.6 is wrong whatever system is used  11.0 mmol/l would convert to 198 mg/dl (11*18), so it looks like there is a problem with it. Your nexus meter is correctly showing mmol/l, going by the type of readings you have been posting here.

Sounds like you didn't get enough blood in the right place on the test strip, unless the meter is broken.

Nothing is simple with me Alan lol
It must be the meter I checked again same result!

As Alan says your meter is displaying the correct measurement values of mmol/l. If any one gets a meter off ebay or off Amazon and a few other places they need to ensure they get the UK versions of the meters.

All official UK supplied meters are (or should) locked to mmol/l even though the handbooks show how to switch between the 2 measurement methods.

Sounds like you have a duff meter on your hands, thought it was only me that had the problem with electronic items. :D :D

Just in case your not sure about testing using the meter the interactive demo goes through it, https://www1.accu-chek.co.uk/multimedia/demos/active-lcm/index.html

Have to agree looking at the meter its pants 😡 and can see why its on Accu Chek's limited availability listing.

Think I would be using the old meter and when you see your doctor see if he will support you with strips for a decent meter, the contour next usb is a great meter.

Phone Bayer up, fill in the request below or better still when you ring them ask for 2 meters 🙂.

I've been 0.6 in hospital due nurses not looking after me properly & taking all my stuff off me (it's not fun)

The 0.6 meter sounds like its broken, have you enough strips to use your old meter?

But as Alan said mmol is the uk way to measure blood sugars.

I've used 3 types of accu Chek meters, the nano, aviva & expert - I don't like my expert one as its slow compared to the others but its my pump meter so have to put up with it.

But 1 thing your DSN gave you them instead of refusing, maybe take them back & say due to varying results you aren't happy you can use them safely when no readings are the same given you are on insulin & hold a driving license.

Give accu chek a call tell them what meter you are using and see if they will upgrade you to a decent meter they are pretty good at doing that and once you have registered your meter with them they normally upgrade when needed, they have a few different ones so have a look at the site and choose the right one for you before you ring them, hope you get sorted soon.

Cheers pav I no the meter is showing the right readings was just baffled as it came up with 06 which like I said I surely would not be awake😉

I checked out the website this morning as well so I no I was using it properly

Hi laura I have plenty of strips and 4 meters all in all now 😱

I am going to take them back as they really are not that great....slow and cheap is the nicest way to put it :D

One thing you might do before you toss the meter is ask the manufacturer for some control solution and check it's correctly calibrated. But, it does sound to me as though it's a duff one.

Just a thought Ant - is the '06' showing on the meter an error code by any chance, rather than a reading?

You no what Alan I thought the same thing but you can look at the memory and it comes up as a previous reading...plus the meter only comes up with fault codes ie F1-F10

I have been using the meter today and it is hard to use slow and cheap!...hang on that's me!! :D😉

It's penny-pinching again Ant - cheap meter with strips that are probably more suited to someone who only needs to test occasionally, rather than more critically as you do now you are on insulin. I would say these are not suitable for you, because if you are experiencing a hypo, imagine how much more difficult they would be to use 😱 Don't know what the NHS pay for these strips, but it can't be that much cheaper than the 'standard' ones that practically everyone else uses (all of which cost the NHS around ?15 for 50).

Get the woman or the doc told that they are just not practical or trustworthy! 🙂

Another possibility - are the strips in date?

Going to ask the daft question 😱 have you got the right code chips inserted in the meters? Though if the wrong code chip is in the meter would show an error.

Did you do a plausibility check? It's video number 7. Leave the strip for 20-30 secs and compare the colour of the window with those on the test strip pot (this is real old fashioned testing, if in doubt try ****ing on it, you wont get a better result but it might make you feel better).
