Hi there, this is probably a stupid question but:-
After testing for a couple of months I know that my pre breakfast reading will be between 7.0 and 7.8, and post breakfast between 7.5 and 8.0 unless I eat anything different.
Pre dinner is between 5.5 and 6.5 the only variable factor is post dinner (we don't eat lunch) which can be 6.5 and 8.0 depending of what I have eaten.
Now I know this is it worth wasting test strips to get the usual results unless I have eaten something different or could I get away with testing only after dinner every day just to keep tabs on things and go back to more frequent testing if my results suddenly change when my eating patterns haven't?
Should also say that my weekly average on the code free is between 7.0 and 7.5, not perfect but the best I can do I think.

Once I've established that I know how a specific meal impacts me, I don't keep on testing it every week. But I still might test again, just to see if things change. Some of my results have shown in the past that my reaction to a specific meal is almost identical from one year to the next.

So yes, use the testing to what helps you.

Hallo Jackie, I test so many times a day, first thing in the morning, before n after meals, during the day at work, couple times in the evening before bed.....yep, I get thru a few strips but it's my life and testing is the only way you can check what's happening.
I was on Gliclazide and the Doc halved it and put me on Metformin as well and said that I wouldn't have to test so much.....yeah right Doc, *pricks finger in clinic* 🙂

It depends on the risk of hypo's for you. And this can depend on what medication you are on.

Only metformin or diet controlled; then once you've established what effect foods/meals have (with several test over several weeks), and know what is going on, you don't need to keep testing every single meal. Or even every week or month.

(Disclaimer: I've not done munch testing myself yet. Hopefully later this year when I've saved up some money)

Hi Guys,
Just diet no meds, it seemed an awful waste of test strips when I knew what the answer would be before I started.
From now o I will only test once a day or when I try something now and want to see what the impact is.
I guess common sense tells me pina coladas are still out though!

The typo 'munch testing' is so appropriate for before n after meals. 🙂

Sounds like a great plan.

You may find you don't need to test daily if your routine is fairly solid. Just an occasional check once a week or so to make sure things aren't changing and you are still where you expect to be would be fine. And you might find that your 'trying something new' checks give you that information on their own.

Yep, the reading of 12.0 following a Thai curry from the street food stall in the Whitefriers centre came a a bit of a shock as I watched the girl making it for me and there didn't seem anything odd, all fresh ingredients which is why I bought it, like to know what I'm eating.
First take away or fast food in years, shouldn't break the habits of a lifetime I suppose
