1st HbA1c result after using a BG metre for part of the 3 mths between tests
April he was 6.5 tested on Monday 1st August - result 6.0 still on diet & exercise (weight maintain should be gain...lost a bit more so we have to work on this) despite lack of full mobility he really sees exercise works (our own tests have proved this to him) he is decorating and gardening atm therefore keeping his BG levels fairly good. Definitely need to think about winter exercise especially when it is raining or icy as we are both determined to keep working hard at this.

I was relieved after a few tears for the past day or to and the nurse on Monday was amazed at the food diary I had kept with his readings. I have learned so much on this forum and was able to relate the GI and GL of foods which I don't think she expected. Although we wouldn't be able to keep on testing as much as I would like too we are still getting test strips which is something. I am going to buy another pot for new foods without having to ask for too many which may mean we don't get any. I really think the testing has helped both of us and it has helped me to feel better about foods dad can eat without constant worry.

We had to ask about the retinopathy test results as the hospital didn't send the letter to us, thankfully all was clear so dad doesn't have to go back until next year.

The next month dad will be active as long as the major pain doesn't come back. His INR has gone a bit weird although this is due to the fact they decreased his Warfarin when he was on all the painkillers and steroids. We have increased it again and he will have another test for this next week. Really hope the nurse will be happy with his HbA1c result this time.

As always thank you for all your support on this forum, my school of learning!

Excellent results Pippin! Really pleased for you and your father, you have done so well! 🙂

Well done Pippin on such a brilliant result.:D

You've worked very hard to get to this and I hope the nurse is as pleased as she should be.

Aaawww I'm so pleased for you both, that's such good news :D Sheena

Well done Pippin to both you and your dad. You're doing brilliantly

Great news Pippen, best wishes to your dad.

Thank you everyone we wouldn't have got this far only for the help and advice on this forum. I really have learned more from reading posts and asking questions here. The dietician really wasn't much help when we think about the advice we were given. It has been beneficial for me to go with dad as it's there I hear what he likes or doesn't like about his diet!

Going to keep working hard and reading further. Thank you for the link trophywench I will read this better when I am online on my Mac. Just on iPhone tonight as I'm tired.

Reading the experiences of members here really has helped me and has taught me someday the Diabetic fairy may make me work harder! Books and links recommended have been extremely useful. Thank you

We both appreciate all your kind words of support xx

Brilliant news Pippin! Congratulations to you both 🙂

Well done 🙂.

Thanks to both if you 🙂

We have been chatting today and are going to continue with SMBG buying strips to supplement the strips we are given until we build a more complete picture and perhaps prove to the Drs how this does help if dad continues to keep his A1c even. It was quite alarming to think we couldn't test new foods or meals especially as the winter months will have completely different meals.
We will still be careful with the strips and then follow the guide trophywench linked me to if we get told off!

We think it's too early just to stop or be really limited and know we needed tests today as dad has been really busy with decorating and his levels have been lower although not below 4. He doesn't have any low syptoms therefore checking was important. We will add these points when speaking to the nurse and hope she will see we aren't just playing!
