Hi all,

Just introducing myself. I'm Neil and I'm on here because my daughter Beth has just been diagnosed Type 1 this last week.

I'll have lots of questions I need answering, so sorry if I bother too much!

Things have gone really well since Wednesday when she was diagnosed, so fingers crossed!

Thanks
Neil

Welcome G Neil. Sorry to hear about your daughter. I am in my 50th year of T1 & still full-time employed. Keep at it & don't sit still to long. Hydration is important to all diabetics Good luck 🙂

Hi Neil and welcome to the forum. It's sounds like your daughter and yourself have made a good start. Keep asking the questions as there are people with lots of experience of T1 on the forum.

Thanks guys! We've had tremendous support from the local diabetes team, but I can see the forum being a useful tool!

Welcome Neil, how old is your daughter? You seem to be being very positive - good for you, but know you are always welcome here, whatever the day may bring. Some days you will have lots of questions, some days you will need to rant, no worries, we have all been there! Welcome to the forum, glad you found us 🙂

Welcome Neil from a T2. Just to be clear, are you diabetic too (T1). When selecting type in your personal details there is Parent.

Hi Neil
Sorry to hear about your daughter, but glad she's doing well. Feel free to bombard us with as many questions as you need to, it can be overwhelming at first so ask away 🙂 How old is your daughter and how did she come to be diagnosed?

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis :( How did it come about? What insulin regime is she on? I would highly recommend getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas, which is the definitive guide to all aspects of Type 1. There is a steep learning curve, but it is manageable and it doesn't have to prevent her from doing anything she wants to do - there are very successful people from all walks of life with Type 1, from international athletes to PM Theresa May! 🙂

You might also like to look at the Children with Diabetes website, which has lots of information for UK parents 🙂 Depending on her age, she may like to receive a JDRF 'KIDSAC' with a Rufus Bear 🙂

Please let us know what questions you have and we will be happy to help, so don't worry about asking too much - if it is worrying or confusing you, ask away 🙂

Hi GNeil and daughter, and welcome to the gang.
Anytime you need some advice, want to rant, or would like a virtual pint in the virtual pub just go ahead. Even in the middle of the night there is normally someone around🙂
