A DEVOTED dad, whose son has diabetes, is training hard to swim the length of Coniston Water to raise cash for a charity which is looking to find a cure for the disease.

Phil Godfrey (43) of Great Dalby will take on the 5.5 mile challenge in Cumbria in July along with his friend Mark Sallinger of The Crescent, Melton.

The pair hope to raise ?2,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and have already secured over ?1,000 thanks to the support of family and friends.

Phil?s son Ben (8), who attends Great Dalby Primary School, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of two and needs up to five injections of insulin a day in order to stabilise his blood sugar levels.
