Hello

Havent been on for a while but thought would let you know I have a place on the DAFNE course in 2 weeks time w/c 04 March

Really looking forward to it - and work is giving me paid time off for it.
This took a bit of persuading - HR first suggested I take it as 'sick' leave. I requested they re-read the letter - provided by the hospital explaining the long term benefits of the course and reconsider their 'sick' leave suggestion. Thankfully they did.

So went for HbA1c today - 7.6 (so we can compare levels now and then 6 weeks after the course)
Better than it was in January (8.3) but not as good as last August (7.1)
But going in right direction again and hopefully the course will help me make my next test better.

Looking forward to meeting the other people on the course and hopefully make some new type 1 buddies.

Will let you know how it goes

Melissa

Hi Melissa, great to hear from you again! That's terrific that you have a DAFNE place, and also that you were able to persuade your employers it isn't 'sick' leave 🙂 Hope you enjoy it, I will look forward to hearing your experiences 🙂

Hope you can make it to the Glasgow Meet again on June 8th! 🙂

Does anyone knw if the DAFNE courses run in North Hampshire. I have never been offered one.

Hi Jenni, DAFNE courses are usually for Type 1s on insulin, although I think they are working on version for Type 2s on insulin. The main courses for Type 2 are the DESMOND course and the XPert course, but often PCTs have their own version. Ask your GP or nurse what is available in your area 🙂 There might be some information on your PCT's website.

Good luck for your DAFNE. I am doing a similar one at present, 1 day a week for 4 weeks and it's been really good.

The podiatrist who came to speak to us this week was very informative and I have especially liked meeting other PWD. What I found funny was seeing other people injecting, I don't find it offensive, but somehow reassuring that it's not just me living this.

Hope you enjoy your course!

I think this is something people like when they attend forum meets - because most people have diabetes there's a degree of 'normality' when everyone whips their meters or pens out! 🙂

I'm on the waiting list for the DAFNE course! Via my consultant...... He did say wouldn't normally for T2 but due to me really being a special case ( inbetweener) it would be good for me.

Definitely ask.
