Reduced levels of the VIP hormone in the pancreas due to low nerve supply may contribute to the development of early diabetes in people with cystic fibrosis (CF), a study in mice suggests.

Diabetes due to cystic fibrosis is well known, and classified under the umbrella term 3c. I’m not sure how this discovery can help prevent CF related diabetes.

I think there was somebody on the MyDesmond forum with CF related diabetes and reported her DSN hadn't experience of advising how to manage the combined conditions. I don't know if they joined here.

I’m not surprised that that DSN didn’t have experience of CF related diabetes. It’s uncommon. In my years as a GP I never saw a case of CF, let alone CF related diabetes. Same with pancreatitis with Type 3c.

We did have a CF case on the Pancreatitis forum. (Diabetes on that forum is an “oh by the way” diagnosis.) He was, remarkably, in his sixties.
