I cut myself shaving on my right leg near my ankle and it's left quite a nasty cut so not sure whether i should go and see a doctor. How do others cope with cuts and grazes?

I usually put germaline on if i get a cut and keep a eye on it, if you see it getting infected then certainly make an appointment, I guess near your ankle is difficult to put a plaster on.Is it bleeding or stopped?.
hi Stef, it did bleed in the bath when i realised i cut myself, its just left a nasty looking red graze but will put some savlon on it and keep an eye on it, thanks

The main risk, after bleeding has stopped, is infection and slow healing. So, provided your razor and skin was clean and the wound did bleed a bit to wash away from the wound and you wiped away from the wound, not towards it, there's very little risk of infection. Warm soapy water is a very good cleaning method, followed by rinsing with warm water
Personally, I very rarely use antiseptic lotions or ointments on the occasions I cut or graze my legs (not by shaving, but occasionally by falling on rough ground when orienteering or working in woodland conservation), as I don't think they'e as helpful as proper washing, then covering with petroleum jelly (eg Vaseline), which gives a moist wound healing environment, with a plaster if needed.
