Relationship to Diabetes
Hi, my father has diabetes and developed Charcot foot about 18 months ago. I am looking for somewhere to get some custom footwear made. The footwear will need to be fully bespoke due to the foot deformity. If anyone has been in a similar situation, I wondered if anyone can recommend a company they have used? I am looking on the Internet but have nothing to base a decision on. The NHS is making a custom boot but the process is taking forever. Thanks.

Hello

I have a Charcot foot and ankle deformity, I get 1 pair of NHS shoes made every 2 years as cannot get ordinary shoes on my foot due to the deformity. I had a pair made privately a couple of years ago as desperately wanted something a bit more feminine than the NHS black lace up policeman style shoes. In reality the privately made shoes cost a fortune and took just as long as the NHS as I had to pay to have a pair of wooden lasts of my feet carved to base the shoe shape around. It took at least 10 months from start to finish as there is no quick way to make sure they fit perfectly apart from multiple visits for fittings and that was after waiting on a 4 month list for an initial appointment.

I based my choice partly on location and after discussing my needs with them. I suggest giving a few companies a ring and asking if they have dealt with Charcot feet before. The privately made shoes do fit like a glove. Good luck.

Have you found anything yet? I hope you find something stylish and comfortable for your father.
